First post!

*obligatory first post chat*

I have lost count of how many times I have made a first post in a blog, promising to regularly update and inform, review, write and create etc etc.
Problem is, I have also lost count of how many have fallen to the wayside, abandoned by me as my procrastination gets a hold of me and tells me “tomorrow is good. tomorrow is alway good” and of course, tomorrow never comes. As Annie sings, it may only be a day away, but that is all it ever is. I really ought to work on the part of me that believes so much that tomorrow is good. Because really, what is wrong with today? Today is better! Today gets things done.

I was rather spur-of-the-moment, today. Impulsive. Mental even. I decided to set up blog 10,001 (I lied, maybe I haven’t lost count) and not only that, but fork out some money to do it.  And set up a facebook page. Oh dear.
But you see, there is always that chance that today is the day everything will stick. I might finally be satisfied with a blog, and finally remember to keep updating, and finally, after so many years, believe in myself and my own ability to write stuff that people may consider reading!

I also have a ulterior motive. It’s acting like a bit of a boost as well.

I will be blogging for the readathon.

What readathon? you might ask. Why Dewey’s Readathon of course! For a good few years now I have participated in the reading marathon that is Dewey’s 24-hour readathon, where one must sit and read for 24 hours over the weekend, often blogging of your reading progress. There are activities to do, people to cheer on and support, prizes to win and good fun to be had all around.
This year I have booked the weekend off work, got myself a ton of books to read (both paper and kindle varieties) and have decided to go serious. I am doing it for charity. As a result the level is upped. No longer can I get away with giving up and going to sleep at 3am, not getting up til 11am the next morning and missing all the fun. No. I will be attempting to stay awake for the full 24 hours and read and blog and raise money.

I will raise money for the Aid for Japan charity set up by Akemi Solloway to support the orphans of the 2011 tsunami. The money helps them out until they are 20 years old (adulthood in Japan) and gets them through their education with support and an international community to offer them love and care.
So yeah, rather than use my good old livejournal which has been the base for my readathon posts these past few years, I will now use this new website.  Hopefully cheerleaders will come and support me, and maybe even like what I write and spread the word? It could happen!

I think the plan for this blog now is to write about anything just to get started. I will be blogging about my reading, my writing, languages, anime, manga, but also politics and social commentary, media events and other such stuff. Anything I feel I can write about. I will mark each post separately so people don’t have to bother with rants posts about Maggie Thatcher if they aren’t into British politics and so on.

I am also looking into some customising the site – cute pictures and themes and stuff. I’m not a web person and have no talent in the programming department. Will have to see what I can find out 😛

So. I am coming to the end of my first blog post at Cabbit Corner.  I hope it isn’t the last, but in case it is, goodbye and thanks for reading! If not, then thanks for reading and stay tuned for more craziness to come.
